The hook mechanism clicks in place so firmly that I don't worry about anything sliding off, even when I'm grabbing a book at 2am. Attaching the optional legs was a ten-minute job and now it works as a standalone nightstand for our guest room too.
We use it every single night as a landing spot for books and a water bottle right at the foot of the bed, and the hook system makes it super easy to pop on and off when we need to vacuum under the loft. Even with the optional legs left off, it feels rock solid for how much we've piled on it.
We’re using it with the optional legs as a standalone shelf next to the bunk, and it holds all the kids’ bedtime books and a small lamp without wobbling. The attach-to-bed option is nice for later, but the legs make it way more versatile for our layout.
